Well the World has gone to Hell
It’s pretty hard to know how to feel right now. Friends are being laid off. Others are bunkered down in their homes, able to work remotely. A good chunk of us are not labeled “essential”, and it sends chills down my spine to think back to “Schindler’s List” when the employees were being told whether or not they were essential.
One by one I’m watching jobs that were normally labeled essential – such as Construction – being knocked off the list. With that, more people are jobless. A good friend of mine, who’s job WAS labeled essential, after being told they would all get letters saying such, were laid off the following week. They just bought a house this year and are now down to one income until her unemployment kicks in, which may not take for a month. Sure, she should get that money back retroactively, but until then bills add up.
I’ve been through a recession before, and I was lucky enough to have 2 jobs during it. This time around, I still have a good paying job and I am able to go to school remotely. There are so many people that aren’t as lucky.
So what’s the point of this entry? I have a favor to ask.
If you’re one of the fortunate few that this mess hasn’t effected as badly? Be kind. Help someone out who’s world just got fucked over. One kind act. That’s all I ask.
